Car Maintenance 101: High Priority Areas During Servicing

Posted on: 31 August 2020

Servicing a car is critical to delivering the right performance and enhancing service life. Despite the apparent advantages of regular servicing, some car owners consider the practice tedious and ignore certain aspects. Unfortunately, the ignorance might lead to costly repairs; for instance, an engine might knock because of oil contamination. Therefore, car owners must adhere to servicing requirements without fail. This article highlights high priority areas during car servicing.

Rust Protection

Rust is a significant challenge that many vehicle owners experience. Not only does rust lower the aesthetic appeal of a car, but it also destroys engine parts, which might affect your vehicles resale value in cases you decide to put it up for sale. However, with regular maintenance, for example, waxing, you can prevent rust, especially on metal panels. Also, you should ensure that an engine is cleaned and serviced using anti resistant fluids to eliminate corrosion that is likely to interfere with car efficiency. Besides, wash your car regularly to clear mud and moisture accumulation that might trigger rusting on the chassis and framework.

Flush Engine Oils

You must perform oil change regularly as outlined in a user manual. Notably, replacing lubricants after a specific period or when a vehicle hits a particular mileage highly advised to protect the engine from failure and prolong its service life. For example, transmission fluid should be replaced to ensure that gears function optimally with minimal friction. However, some car owners wait until it is too late. For instance, if you notice that engine fluids have changed colour or your car is emitting a burning odour, then you need to service it as soon as yesterday. Besides, do not forget to check the steering fluid once your car has attained a mileage of about 50,000 kilometres.

Car Batteries

Perhaps, one of the most important but neglected cars servicing aspect is the battery. For most people, a cell is usually an afterthought during car servicing as long as the vehicle can start and power all accessories. Unfortunately, a battery tends to conk out in the oddest places or when you are in a hurry. If you want to avoid such inconveniences, then regularly checking the battery for corrosion and refilling is highly advised. For example, always clean the flaky powder around the terminals since it is acidic and might cause bodily harm if you came into direct contact with it. Besides, taking proper care for your battery prolongs the service life of car accessories.
